ChicagoI love Chicago. I moved here over 10 years ago and never tire of exploring its vast neighborhoods. I divided these photos into their neighborhoods with a miscellaneous category at the end for anything that didn't fit anywhere else. I also included the North Shore as part of Chicago. Scroll down to see them all.
The neighborhoods represented are: Andersonville, Edgewater, Hyde Park, the Lakefront, Lakeview, Lincoln Park, the Loop, North Shore, Old Town, Paseo Boricua, Pilsen, Rogers Park, Streeterville, Ukrainian Village, Wicker Park and Wrigleyville. ANDERSONVILLEWith it's history steeped in Swedish culture with the first settlers to this area being immigrant Swedish farmers well back into the 19th century, Andersonville is one of Chicago's thriving northern neighborhoods. The main drag of Clark St, nestled between Winnemac and Victoria, is home to various antique shops, clothing boutiques, bars and a wide array of restaurants.
EDGEWATEROnce a summer play ground for the rich and famous, attracting people like Marilyn Monroe, Judy Garland and Frank Sinatra, today Edgewarer is known for its various antique shops and expansive beaches.
HYDE PARKLocated on the south side of Chicago, Hyde Park is home to the University of Chicago and former home to President Barack Obama.
LAKEFRONTThe Chicago lakefront is one of the things that makes Chicago magical. Having grown up in Michigan, I am a Great Lakes girl. I am delighted to live near Lake Michigan and be able to take in the sights over the water every day. (I've included some Evanston lakefront pics here as well.)
LAKEVIEWLakeview holds a special place in my heart. North of Diversey Parkway and hugging Lake Michigan, Lakeview was my home for four years when I first moved to Chicago from my home state of Michigan. Loaded with lots of bars, gobs of restaurants and a variety of boutiques, Lakeview has that small town feel tucked into a big city feel.
LINCOLN PARKHome to the expansive Lincoln Park that edges the waterfront and the Lincoln Park Zoo, Lincoln Park is a quaint neighborhood to the north of downtown Chicago.
THE LOOPThe loop is the heart of downtown Chicago - surrounded by the loop created by the CTA elevated train tracks. Today it includes the downtown area boxed in by the Chicago River, Lake Michigan and West Roosevelt Road. Dominated by high rises and the business center of the city, the Loop also includes Millennium Park, Grant Park and the Art Institute of Chicago.
NORTH SHOREThere is life outside Chicago. I've had the priviledge of living in Evanston for over five years and have taken this opportunity to explore the North Shore. These include photos taken at the Chicago Botanical Garden located in Glencoe.
OLD TOWNTucked in between the Gold Coast, Near North and Lincoln Park neighborhoods, Old Town is home to the famous Second City improv group and classes and Orso's Italian Restaurant.
PILSENPilsen is a west side neighborhood. Centered around 18th Street, Pilsen borders the Halsted Arts District and is an ecclectic mix of shops and restaurants. I stumbled upon this neighborhood during an on location photography class and fell in love with it. If you're interested in authentic Mexican cuisine, it's worth a visit.
PASEO BORICUAPaseo Boricua (loosely translated as the Puerto Rican Promenade) is located west of downtown Chicago on Division Street between Western Ave and California Ave in the Humboldt Park neighborhood. It's a very colorful place and worth checking out.
ROGERS PARKRogers Park hugs Lake Michigan to its east and is Chicago's most northern neighborhood.
STREETERVILLEJust north of the Chicago River and the Loop, Streeterville includes Navy Pier and the Magnificant Mile.
UKRAINIAN VILLAGEWest of downtown Chicago, Ukrainian Village is home to the St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral, the Sts. Volodymyr and Olha Ukrainian Catholic Parish in Chicago and the St. Volodymyr Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral. It's a very homey neighborhood originally settled by Polish and Slovak immigrants.
WICKER PARKWicker Park is a northwest neighborhood known for its thriving art community.
WRIGLEYVILLEHome to the Chicago Cub's Wrigley Field and a crazy amount of bars and restaurants up and down North Clark Street, Wrigleyville is the place to go for a party almost any night of the week during baseball season.
